Who We Are - Weight of the Crown

Our Background

Weight of the Crown (WOTC) is a program that empowers at-risk and underprivileged adolescents to become entrepreneurs at a young age. Students will learn how to run their chosen business from beginning to end, with hands-on assistance from an industry professional. In addition to their educational curriculum, students will learn financial literacy and credit health while also earning stock in those areas of interest.

The Problem

Over 10 million children are living in low-income families below the federal poverty line and are considered at-risk youth. That is approximately 17% of all children under 18 in the United States, according to the American Community Survey.

Unemployment among the underprivileged and at-risk youth is heavily influenced by several factors, including the lack of vocational training, a scarcity of employment options, and an inadequate amount of mentoring for entrepreneurs.

Our Solution

To address the problem, we aim to equip at-risk youth by providing vocational training, establishing mentorship programs, and equipping them with the knowledge and tools to become successful business owners. WOTC will provide at-risk youth with a diverse array of opportunities to engage in positive interactions with mentors and peers. By identifying at-risk adolescents early and providing them with educational support, we can increase their chances of continued success as adults.
